Thousands of people came outside the Portuguese parliament to demand the resignation of government in reaction to the budget announced today that will see most of Portuguese workers losing about a months worth wages.
A couple of thousand of people are still in front of Parliament where a fire was set in front of the police line.
8 people were reported arrested and 10 injured police.

A break-away group congregated at the home of the current Portuguese PM, Pedro Passos Coelho and tried to occupy his house but were met with equal resistance by a contingent of 30 riot police that used batons to disperse the angry crowd. It is important to note that moral at the lower ranks in the Portuguese police force are at a very low level and they are feeling the worst of the economic crisis and austerity imposed by the troika, IMF and ECB. It was reported by Portuguese TV channel that a great number of them don’t even have money to pay for their own meals nor to feed their own families.
