Occupy London | #globalnoise, What the Hell Happened?
Author: Pedro Lima
Ok, let me start by saying that I think pretty much all of us feel that yesterday’s demo was, at best, disappointing! I am not going to stand here though and start throwing stones to the organisers, after all, I wasn’t even in any of the planning meetings and any outright criticism would be distasteful and really unfair to the people that surely have put a lot of time and effort to make this day happen and we all thank them for that I am sure. So the question that comes to my mind is, what the hell happened? Or rather what happened that made it not happen?
Ultimately the responsibility of the organisation of this event still lies in the hands of the organisers, after all they are the only ones who know exactly what the plan was. So instead of me picking up a stone and start throwing it at people I very much like I would instead call for a public explanation and complete transparency of what went wrong because clearly this was not an act of God that made things go wrong was it? I spoke personally with one the action planners outside City Hall, which I am not going to name for obvious reasons, and what I heard was, and I quote, “This was plan C or D. Plan A fell to the ground three days ago because of external factors”. Having heard this and having witnessed the apparent confusion at the City Hall, I think its only fair that I, or anyone actually, start wondering what this external reasons were, right?
I feel that if this fails to happen then I am afraid they have failed the movement in the true sense of the word and have thrown away all the good efforts they have made up till now simply because too many questions have been raised after yesterday’s event and none of them have been dignified with answers yet. If the people that were behind the planning truly believe in what they preach(which I honestly believe they do), then for the sake of transparency, honesty and respect for those that came from far and making huge personal sacrifices for various reasons, we the people, demand a swift and fair answer to this questions! That is all we want because failure or disappointments are part of life and only those that are not brave enough to try will never taste the bitterness of failure!
